Job summary

City of Portsmouth College is seeking a Lecturer in Engineering at the Highbury and North Harbour Campus. The role is 21 hours per week, permanent, with a salary in the full-time equivalent range of £30,248.30 to £44,298.68 per annum.

You will lead and support learners on Level 2 and Level 3 Engineering qualifications, designing engaging lessons, assessing work in line with awarding bodies, and enhancing learning through innovative teaching and interventions.

Qualifications

  • HNC or equivalent qualification in a relevant area or relevant work experience.
  • Experience using a range of strategies to engage learners.
  • Teaching qualification or willingness to work towards (QTS/QTLS) and ability to meet targets.

Responsibilities

  • Teach on a range of Engineering programmes to learners and apprentices.
  • Plan, monitor and record student achievement and retention.
  • Develop and deliver high-quality curriculum, schemes of work and training plans.
  • Contribute to development of new programmes within the curriculum area.

Hours of work: 21 hours per week (inclusive of teaching and prep time), 52 weeks per year, Permanent

About the role

The Engineering Department is a dynamic and growing area of our technical education provision, delivering high-quality Level 2 and Level 3 Engineering qualifications aligned with national standards. Due to increased demand, we areseekingto appoint a passionateEngineering specialistinCADand Project Managementto inspire and support learnersin achieving their qualifications. You will take ownership of your course, setting and assessing work in line with awarding body criteria, and continuously enhancing the learning experience through innovative teaching andadditionallearning interventions.

Key Responsibilities
  • To teach on a range of programmes, providing high-quality learning opportunities that meet the needs of individual students/apprentices and groups in line with the College’s strategic priorities and objectives.
  • To provide flexible assessment opportunities and closely plan, monitor, track and record student/apprentice retention, achievement, and success.
  • To contribute to the development and delivery of high-quality, relevant curriculum and programmes. Curriculum Development responsibilities include:
    • Actively contributing to the development of new programmes within the curriculum area
    • Producing annual schemes of work and/or training plans for all subjects/programmes to be taught
To be successful in this role, below is what we would need from you
  • HNC or equivalent qualification in a relevant area or Relevant work experience
  • Experience of using a range of strategies to ensure students engage and partake in their lessons
  • Teaching Qualification in a relevant subject or willing to work towards (QTS/QTLS)Ability to meet targets within set timescales
  • Ability to work well in teams but also to work independently, with the minimum of supervision
  • Computer literate
