Job summary

City of Portsmouth College in Portsmouth is seeking a Nursery Practitioner to support the Nursery deputies and practitioners and to help create a safe, engaging environment for children at Highbury Campus.

This part-time role is 30 hours a week over 38 weeks, permanent, with an actual salary of £18,255.21–£18,774.31 (pro‑rata to FTE £25,410.97–£26,133.56 per year).

Responsibilities

• Oversee and participate in children’s activities including planning and observations.
• Assist in devising stimulating activities appropriate to each age and maintain records.
• Maintain a clean, healthy and safe environment for the children.
• Actively participate in team meetings and discussions.
• Ensure children are always safe and well-behaved.
• Attend training and perform other duties as required by the Nursery manager.

About the role

The Nursery Practitioner will support the Nursery deputies and Nursery practitioners in ensuring the efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the Nursery. This role involves providing care and support for all children attending the Nursery.

To be successful in this role, below is what we would need from you

• Level 3 Childcare Qualification or working towards
• Evidence of commitment to professional development
• Experience of working in a Nursery or similar environment
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to safeguarding and the prevent agenda
• Enthusiasm and drive
• Ability to work under pressure

Key Responsibilities

• To oversee and participate in children’s activities including planning and observations.
• To assist the Nursery deputies in devising stimulating activities appropriate to ages and stages of the children and maintain children’s records.
• To assist in maintaining a clean, healthy and safe environment for the children.
• To actively participate in team meetings and discussions.
• To ensure that all children are, at all times, acting and behaving safely.
• To attend training as necessary and carry out any other duties reasonably required by the Nursery manager.
