Job Introduction

Bury College is looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Lecturer in Art & Design to join our curriculum team on a fixed-term basis until Easter 2027, with the potential for extension.

This is an exciting opportunity for a creative, committed and forward-thinking professional who can bring their subject expertise, industry knowledge and enthusiasm into the classroom and help our learners develop the skills, confidence and ambition to succeed.

About the role

As a Lecturer in Art & Design, you will deliver high-quality, inclusive and inspiring teaching and learning across our Art & Design provision. You will create engaging learning experiences that challenge and motivate students, while supporting them to achieve their qualifications and progress into further study, employment or their chosen creative career.

You will plan and deliver effective lessons, develop schemes of work and learning resources, and use a range of assessment and feedback strategies to monitor and maximise learner progress.

You will also play an important role in the wider student experience, acting as a Personal Tutor and supporting learners with their personal development, wellbeing, attendance and progression. The role will include:

  • Planning and delivering inspiring, inclusive and challenging Art & Design lessons.
  • Developing schemes of work, lesson plans and resources that promote learner progress and achievement.
  • Providing effective formative and summative assessment, constructive feedback and SMART targets.
  • Monitoring learner performance and taking appropriate action to support achievement and progress.
  • Supporting learners to develop their creative, technical and employability skills.
  • Keeping your specialist subject and industry knowledge current and ensuring teaching reflects contemporary Art & Design practice.
  • Using digital technologies and the College's VLE to enhance learning.
  • Contributing to curriculum development, quality improvement and course team activities.
  • Supporting internal verification, standardisation and external moderation where appropriate.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues, employers and external partners.
  • Contributing to trips, visits, work placements and other enrichment opportunities.
  • Supporting learner recruitment, interviews, marketing and promotional activities.
  • Undertaking Personal Tutor responsibilities and contributing to the wider study programme.
  • Maintaining accurate records of attendance, assessment and learner progress.
  • Ensuring safeguarding, health and safety and equality, diversity and inclusion are embedded within your practice.
  • Undertaking appropriate coordination responsibilities within the curriculum area.
About you

We are looking for an inspirational educator who combines strong Art & Design expertise with a genuine passion for helping young people achieve their potential.

You will have a degree or equivalent qualification in Art & Design, or a related subject, together with experience of successfully teaching Art & Design or a related programme.

You will ideally have experience of the UAL Art & Design curriculum and an understanding of current industry practice and progression routes within the creative sector.

You will also bring:

  • A teaching qualification or professional recognition in Learning and Skills, or a willingness to work towards one.
  • QTS/QTLS, or a willingness to work towards this.
  • Experience of developing effective schemes of work and lesson plans.
  • Strong assessment and feedback skills.
  • Experience of using inclusive and challenging teaching strategies.
  • Excellent IT and digital learning skills.
  • An understanding of how to support learners with differing needs and abilities.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and its importance within an educational setting.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute positively to curriculum development.
  • A reflective approach to teaching and a commitment to continually improving the learner experience.
