Job description

Lecturer – Foundation Studies

Full time and Permanent

Uxbridge

£33,429 - £46,618

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer on a permanent and full time post to plan and deliver across a range of courses within Foundation Studies, particularly focusing on the Access to FE programmes, taking an active role in developing learners’ skills for independence and preparing them for employment or further study. You will also be involved in the development of the programmes within the area.

You will need to possess a degree in a relevant subject area (or minimum Level 3 qualification with substantial teaching experience in Foundation) and have experience of teaching within the Foundation Learning area including Functional Skills, together with up-to-date knowledge of good practice in this area. A Level 5 teaching qualification recognised by the FE sector would be an advantage.

These posts will initially be based at Uxbridge Campus, however in time it is anticipated you will also be required to work at Barra Hall, Hayes.

DUTIES SPECIFIC TO THE POST
  • To teach on a range of courses within the School of Foundation Studies, focusing on Access to FE programmes
  • To prepare students for Edexcel and City and Guilds portfolios and Functional Skills exams
  • To direct and work with Learning Support Assistants within the classroom
  • To participate in residential trips/activity days within Foundation Studies
Qualifications:
  • Degree in the relevant subject area (or minimum of Level 3 in a relevant area plus minimum of 2 years' successful experience teaching in Foundation)
  • GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or equivalent, or willing to achieve
  • Level 5 teaching qualification recognised by the FE sector**, or willingness and ability to work towards one, supported by the College
Knowledge and Experience:
  • Teaching experience in Foundation Learning
  • Experience of teaching learners with LDD and/or challenging behaviour
  • Experience of teaching Functional Skills
  • Up-to-date knowledge of good practice in Foundation Learning
Other Skills:
  • Good classroom practice
  • The ability to engage, motivate and inspire learners
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal
  • Good IT skills
  • Experience of using IT / e-learning within the curriculum
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
