Job summary

South Gloucestershire & Stroud College is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to help learners progress within Bristol campus settings. You will work with curriculum staff to support achievement and supervise during breaks and lunches, ensuring a safe learning environment.

The role includes out-of-class academic support and completing administrative duties to record student progress. Term-time only and part-time options are available with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

  • GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above (or equivalent).
  • Experience with learners aged 16-25 with additional needs is desirable.
  • Willingness to learn Office 365 and its applications.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with curriculum staff to support learner progress.
  • Supervise learners during unstructured times (breaks, lunch, arrivals/departures).
  • Provide out-of-class academic support for learners individually or in groups.

Role Information

  • FTE Salary: £25,287.00 (Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience)
  • Actual Salary: £17,336.48 (Reflecting the annual 38 working weeks)
  • Contract Type: Permanent, Part-Time, Term-Time only
  • Working Hours: Minimum of 28 hours over 4 days or 35 hours over 5 days (Job shares are available), 38 weeks per year term-time all school holidays off

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
  • To work collaboratively with curriculum staff in-class to support learner progress and achievement in the classroom.
  • To supervise the learners during unstructured times when they are not directly supervised by curriculum staff (e.g. breaks, lunch times, arrivals and departures).
  • To provide out-of-class academic support for learners on an individual or group basis.
  • To complete all necessary administrative duties, such as accurately recording student support, in a constructive manner.
Beneficial Skills & Qualifications
  • Good standard of general education including Maths and English at GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent), or willingness to upskill.
  • A desirable but not essential is experience of working with young people aged 16-25 with additional needs and/or EHCPs. This experience would preferably be within education, but other experiences related to health, social care or in the community is also very relevant.
  • Experience or the willingness to learn Office 365 and its applications
