Job summary

Quantum Scholars is looking for a Learning Support Practitioner to provide 1:1 tuition and support to young people accessing Alternative Provision and EOTAS in Wokingham.

You will work with both primary and secondary learners with SEND and SEMH needs, building trusting relationships and adapting activities to individual needs during school hours. This role offers term-time hours with ongoing support from Quantum Scholars and progression within SEND settings.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
• Patient, understanding and supportive approach for working with learners.
• Confident supporting learners on a 1:1 basis and adapting teaching approaches.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 learning support and tuition to young people in Alternative Provision and EOTAS.
• Support learners across primary and secondary with SEND/SEMH needs.
• Build positive relationships to encourage engagement and confidence.
• Adapt activities to meet individual needs and learning styles.
• Support core subject progress where required and monitor advancement.
• Help learners develop confidence and independent learning skills.
• Maintain calm, patient approach with challenging behaviour.
• Collaborate with PRU, council and other education professionals.
• Record sessions and provide progress feedback as required.
• Follow safeguarding and health & safety procedures at all times.

Learning Support Practitioner – Wokingham

Location: Wokingham, Berkshire

Role: Learning Support Practitioner

Provision: Alternative Provision / EOTAS

Working Pattern: Term Time Only | During School Hours

Age Groups: Primary & Secondary

Quantum Scholars are working closely with a local PRU and the local council to recruit dedicated Learning Support Practitioners to provide 1:1 support and tuition to young people accessing Alternative Provision and EOTAS across Wokingham.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people who may be unable to access mainstream education and who can build positive, trusting relationships with learners with SEND and SEMH needs.

You will work on a 1:1 basis with young people across both primary and secondary age groups, providing a combination of learning support, mentoring and subject-based tuition tailored to each learner’s individual needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 learning support and tuition to young people accessing Alternative Provision and EOTAS.
• Support learners across primary and secondary age groups with a range of SEND and SEMH needs.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with learners to encourage engagement and confidence.
• Adapt learning activities and tuition to suit each young person’s individual needs, abilities and learning style.
• Support learners with their academic progress across core subjects where required.
• Help learners develop their confidence, independence and engagement with education.
• Provide a calm, patient and consistent approach when supporting young people who may display challenging behaviour or have barriers to learning.
• Work collaboratively with the PRU, council and other professionals involved in the learner’s education.
• Maintain appropriate records of sessions and provide feedback on learner progress where required.
• Follow safeguarding, child protection and health and safety procedures at all times.

Requirements

• Experience working with children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
• Previous experience within a school, PRU, Alternative Provision, EOTAS, tutoring, mentoring or a similar educational setting is desirable.
• A patient, understanding and supportive approach to working with young people.
• Confident supporting learners on a 1:1 basis.
• Ability to adapt your approach and learning activities to meet individual needs.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally.
• A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to education.
• QTS, QTLS or relevant educational qualifications are desirable but not essential, depending on the individual role.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
• Right to work in the UK.
• Availability during normal school hours, Monday to Friday.
