Job summary

Positive Futures Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Learning Support Practitioner for a specialist further education setting in Greater London. You will support young adults with learning disabilities to gain employability skills and independence, across residential, vocational, and classroom environments.

Working closely with teachers and residential staff, you’ll help students with daily living tasks, communication, confidence and social development.

Qualifications

• Experience in education, care or support work is desirable.
• Understanding of supporting individuals with disabilities is desirable.
• Willingness to work flexible shifts including weekends and sleep-ins.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills required.
• Level 2 English and Maths qualifications desirable.
• Level 3 Education or Care qualification desirable.

Responsibilities

• Support students academically and in daily living skills.
• Encourage confidence, independence and personal achievement.
• Assist with communication, self-advocacy and social development.
• Support development of life skills including cooking, cleaning, laundry and personal care.
• Provide one-to-one support where required.
• Collaborate with staff to maintain a positive, inclusive environment.

Job description

Learning Support Practitioner

Salary: £12.87 - £13.40 p/h (£21,622 - £22,512 per annum) - depending on experience and qualifications. Plus £65 per sleep-in shift.

Hours: 40 per week - Term time plus additional days and training (42 weeks per year).

Additional Information

Shift work is required, including weekends and sleep-ins. Sleep-in shifts are paid at a flat rate of £65, in addition to your annual salary.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Learning Support Practitioner, you will play a vital role in supporting students both academically and socially. Working closely with teachers, tutors, and residential staff, you'll help create positive learning experiences while promoting independence and personal development.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting students in learning, practical activities, and daily living skills.
• Encouraging confidence, independence, and personal achievement.
• Assisting students with communication, self-advocacy, and social development.
• Supporting the development of life skills including cooking, cleaning, laundry, personal care, teamwork, and presentation skills.
• Providing one-to-one support where required.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues to create a positive and inclusive environment.
• Supporting positive behaviour and wellbeing.

Shift Pattern

This role operates on a two-week rota and includes alternate weekends. Typical shifts include:

• 7:00am - 3:00pm
• 10:00am - 6:00pm
• 2:00pm - 10:00pm
• Sleep-in shifts are also required and are paid at an additional rate of £65 per sleep-in.

• Previous experience within education, care, support work, or a similar environment (desirable).
• An understanding of supporting individuals with disabilities (desirable).

• A Level 3 qualification in Education or Care (desirable).
