Job summary

Sefton Council is seeking two Learning Support and Pastoral Teaching Assistants to join the Complementary Education Service at Pinefield Centre in Formby. The posts are permanent, full-time during term time, with hours 35 per week.

You will support pupils with additional needs, work under the guidance of teaching staff, promote inclusion, and help with safeguarding and administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

• Establish good working relationships with key stage 3 and 4 pupils, acting as a role model.
• Be aware of and respond appropriately to individual pupil needs.
• Work with our Sen Lead and class teacher to provide for the pupils needs as required.
• Promote inclusion and acceptance of all.
• Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.
• Encourage pupils to act independently as appropriate.
• Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed.
• Support pupils at break times and unstructured times and with movement around the building.
• Provide minimal administration support (e.g. photocopying).
• Establish good working relationships with staff and all pupils, acting as a role model.
• Work with pupils with specific needs, following guidance and planning provided by the class teacher.
• Report pupil achievements, progress and issues as appropriate in agreed format (Praise cards).
• Support pupil behaviour in line with service policy and ensure reports are made in agreed service format.
• Gather/report basic information from/to parents/carers as directed.
• Prepare and maintain equipment and resources as directed.
• Be aware of and comply with all service policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection.
• Contribute to the service ethos, aims and development/improvement plan.
• Appreciate and support the role of other professionals.
• Attend relevant meetings as required.
• Participate in training and other learning activities as required.
• Assist with the supervision of pupils out of directed lesson time, including before and after lessons if appropriate and within working hours.
• Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of service activities as required.
• Act on advice where necessary.
