Job summary

Teaching Personnel Ltd. is recruiting Learning Support Mentors to support pupils in secondary SEN schools across Greater Manchester. This full-time, temporary and long-term role focuses on helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and develop academically, socially and emotionally.

You will work with teachers and SEN staff, providing personalised support to students with autism, ADHD, SEMH and other needs. A supportive environment and opportunities across multiple schools are offered.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting pupils with SEN preferred.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with pupils.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personalised support to pupils with additional needs on a 1:1 or small-group basis.
  • Help pupils engage with lessons and overcome barriers to learning.
  • Build positive relationships and support pupils with confidence, self-esteem and emotional regulation.
  • Encourage independence and positive behaviour in the classroom.
  • Support pupils with communication and social skills during lessons, breaks and activities.

Do you have the patience, resilience and personality to build genuine relationships with pupils who may need a little more encouragement, understanding and support?

We're looking for Learning Support Mentors to join secondary SEN schools across Greater Manchester, supporting young people to develop academically, socially and emotionally.

This is much more than a classroom-based role. You’ll be a trusted adult, positive role model and source of encouragement for pupils who may have faced challenges within mainstream education.

What will you be doing?

As a Learning Support Mentor, you'll work alongside teachers and specialist staff to provide personalised support to pupils with a range of additional needs.

Your day could include:

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 or small-group basis
  • Helping pupils engage with lessons and overcome barriers to learning
  • Building positive and trusting relationships
  • Supporting pupils with confidence, self-esteem and emotional regulation
  • Encouraging independence and positive behaviour
  • Helping pupils develop communication and social skills
  • Supporting students during lessons, breaks and activities
  • Providing encouragement when pupils are struggling
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and wider support teams
  • Celebrating progress — including the small wins that can make the biggest difference

You may be supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties, learning difficulties or other additional needs.
