Job summary

Southampton City Council is seeking a committed Learning Support Assistant to support pupils, including those with SEND, in an inclusive school environment. You will work under the direction of the class teacher and SENCO to deliver targeted interventions and monitor progress.

You will also supervise lunchtimes, promote positive behaviour, and contribute to a safe learning environment. A DBS and safeguarding awareness are essential to the role.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above.
• Experience working with children in an educational or similar setting.
• Experience supporting pupils with a range of needs including SEND.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.
• Good communication, organisation and teamwork skills.
• Ability to support learning and manage behaviour effectively.
• Commitment to inclusion, safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.

What We Are Looking For

Essential

• GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics (Grade 4/C or above).
• Experience of working with children in an educational or similar setting.
• Experience supporting pupils with a range of needs, including SEND.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.

Desirable

• Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
• Experience delivering interventions (e.g. literacy or numeracy).
• Training or experience in supporting additional needs (e.g. ASD, SEMH, speech and language).
• First Aid training.
• Experience supporting personal or medical care needs.
