Job summary

Milk Education is working with a network of welcoming primary schools across Gateshead, seeking enthusiastic Learning Support Assistants to support pupils and teaching staff from September.

This role offers the chance to contribute to pupil progress in supportive school environments, with long-term or varied placements, Monday to Friday, 08:30-15:30, and pay of £107.71 per day.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children (preferably in a primary setting).
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND or additional learning needs (desirable).
  • A patient, caring, and proactive approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Must live locally to Gateshead—no relocation.

Responsibilities

  • Support teachers in delivering engaging and effective lessons.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils who require additional help.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual pupil needs, including those with SEND.
  • Encourage pupil participation, confidence, and independence in learning.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Help maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support pupils' social, emotional, and behavioural development.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents where appropriate.
  • Assist with classroom organisation and preparation of learning resources.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and wider school staff.
  • Follow school policies and safeguarding procedures at all times.
  • Promote the welfare and wellbeing of all pupils.
  • Contribute positively to the wider school community where appropriate.

Learning Support Assistant - Primary Schools - Role Overview

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers to support pupils both in the classroom and through small group or one-to-one interventions. You will help create a positive learning environment, encourage pupil engagement, and provide tailored support to children with a range of learning needs, including SEND.

This role is ideal for an experienced Learning Support Assistant or Teaching Assistant who is passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of children.

Learning Support Assistant - Primary Schools - Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
  • Support teachers in delivering engaging and effective lessons
