Job summary

Alton Park Junior School, part of the Sigma Trust, is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to work with class teachers to support learning in line with the national curriculum and school policies. You will work with individuals or small groups, implement planned activities, support literacy and numeracy, and promote positive pupil behaviour in line with school expectations.

The role is 27.5 hours per week, 38 weeks per year, term time only, 8:45am–3:15pm, Monday to Friday.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children in a school/early years environment.
• Experience working with children with SEMH needs.
• Basic knowledge of First Aid and understanding of the school.
• NVQ Level 2 in Learning Support/Early Years or equivalent qualification/experience would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Working with individuals or small groups of children under the direction of teaching staff.
• Implementing planned learning activities/teaching programmes as agreed with the teacher, adjusting activities according to pupils' responses as appropriate.
• Establishing positive relationships with pupils.
• Supporting pupils with activities which support literacy and numeracy skills.
• Supporting the use of ICT in the classroom and developing pupils' competence and independence in its use.
• Promoting positive pupil behaviour in line with school policies and helping to keep pupils on task.
