Job summary

Harrogate College is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to join the SEND department for a part-time, reduced year role. You will provide in and out of class support, scaffolding learning and assisting students with high needs across our programmes.

You will generate verbal and written reports for teachers and the SEND team, attend annual reviews, and support students who are less mobile or require personal care. Commitment to Level 2 literacy/numeracy and teamwork is essential.

Qualifications

  • Education to Level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy or commitment to achieve within one year.
  • Minimum L2 Award for Learning Support Practitioners or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting students with high needs or SEND.
  • Knowledge of preparation for adulthood for SEND students.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in and out of class support to meet identified needs.
  • Provide reports to teachers and SEND team on progress and strategies used.
  • Attend annual reviews and student meetings as required.
  • Assist with personal care and medical requirements as necessary.
  • Support less mobile students who may use wheelchairs.

Learning Support Assistant (Part Time, Reduced Year)

About the RoleHarrogate College are seeking a Learning Support Assistant to join their SEND department. Harrogate College SEND Department is a small, friendly team of professionals working to support students with needs across our variety of learning programmes. We provide help in class to scaffold learning, mentoring for those struggling with the social and emotional demands of college life, referrals to external and internal professionals for assessment (including for exams access arrangements) and work hard to ensure the inclusion of all our learners, particularly those with an Educational, Health and Care Plan. We enjoy close, positive relationships with our curriculum colleagues and external partners. This enables us to maximise the learning outcomes of all our young people with Special Educational Needs with a view to their gaining employment in their chosen vocation and prepare them for their onward journey into adulthood. Luminate Education Group has been appointed as a Centre for Excellence in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) by the Education and Training Foundation (ETF).Please note, this is a part-time reduced year role. You will work 22.5 hours over 3 days, 39 weeks per year. The pro rata'd salary is £14,298.

What You Will Do
  • Provide in and out of class support to meet identified need of students who have high needs.
  • Provide curriculum teachers/assessors and SEND team members with verbal and written reports on students who have high needs or SEND and feedback against strategies used and progress towards outcomes on the EHCP.
  • Attend annual reviews as requested and attend student meetings as required to update on progress and behaviours.
  • Assist with personal care and medical requirements as necessary.
  • Support students whom are less mobile and may use wheelchairs.
About You
  • Educated to Level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy or a commitment to achieving this within one year of appointment
  • Qualification relevant to the post (Desirable)
  • Minimum L2 Award for Learning Support Practitioners Qualification or appropriate level 2 qualification or willingness to enrol to this within one year of appointment (Desirable)
  • Experience of working within a team who support students who have high needs or SEND to support their learning through identifying strategies and preparing young people for adulthood.
  • Knowledge of preparation for adulthood and what it means for students with SEND.
