Job summary

Academics are looking for experienced Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to cover temporary short- and long-term roles across Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme and surrounding areas in Staffordshire. You will work 1-2-1 or in small groups, helping learners build essential skills and engage with the UK National Curriculum.

Applicants should hold Level 2/3 Childcare/EY/TA qualifications, have UK primary school experience, and be DBS-checked either via Update Service or ready to apply.

Qualifications

  • A minimum Level 2 or Level 3 Childcare/Early Years/Teaching Assistant qualification.
  • Have previous experience of working with children in a primary school or educational setting in the UK.
  • Hold confident communication skills and will be an excellent motivator in the classroom.
  • Have strong behaviour management skills with the ability to support learners in EYFS, KS1, and KS2.

Job description

Academics are currently looking for experienced Learning Support Assistants (LSA) for temporary short and long term roles within our partnership primary schools. Working across Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme, and the surrounding areas in Staffordshire can be diversified, meaning that we work with an assortment of primary schools and that we do have different requirements to suit.

We are proud to say that here at Academics we have had a strong record of placing many of our Learning Support Assistants into permanent work following a successful period of long term supply within our primary schools.

Responsibilities of a Learning Support Assistant (LSA):
  • Working with learners either 1-2-1 or in small groups.
  • Support learners to develop essential skills, build social connections, and engage actively in learning.
  • Managing behaviour and engaging learners with their own learning.
  • Small group interventions and supporting children with a range of needs (SEND).
  • Committed to support both the teacher and the learners to succeed.
For this role, applicants who apply must have:
  • A minimum Level 2 or Level 3 Childcare/Early Years/Teaching Assistant qualification.
  • Have previous experience of working with children in a primary school or educational setting in the UK.
  • Hold confident communication skills and will be an excellent motivator in the classroom.
  • Have strong behaviour management skills with the ability to support learners in EYFS, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2.
  • Be happy to travel and to be able to get to our partnership schools in Stoke-on-Trent (or the surrounding areas)by 8.30am with sometimes only 30-60 minute's notice for our on the day supply requirements.
  • Have a good level of literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE English and Maths Grade 4 or Grade C and above/Functional Skills Level 2 in the minimum required).
  • Be familiar with the UK National Curriculum.
  • Own a current Enhanced DBS that is registered with the Update Service, or you will be prepared to apply for a new DBS with ourselves (cost applied).

Please be aware that your daily rate will be dependent upon experience, prior qualifications, training, and the client rate that is currently available.
