Job summary

Randstad Education is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to work across local schools in Bath. Immediate start with term-time, full-time long-term placement, and weekly pay at £90–£95 per day.

You will support literacy and numeracy, differentiate resources, and track student progress to help learners overcome barriers and reach their full potential.

Qualifications

• GCSEs in English and Maths; ability to explain academic concepts clearly and creatively.
• Proactive; can spot a struggling student and offer support before focus is lost.
• Experience tutoring or working in schools helps learners progress.

Responsibilities

• Lead small group interventions in Literacy and Numeracy to help students catch up or keep pace with the curriculum.
• Teach students how to learn, focusing on organisation, memory techniques, and confidence-building.
• Differentiate resources by creating simplified worksheets, visual aids, or word banks to suit learner needs.
• Take charge of breakout sessions with 3–5 students to ensure they are not overwhelmed by pace of main classroom.
• Promote independence with scaffold-and-fade approach as students gain confidence to work independently.
• Maintain clear records of student progress to inform teaching and future lessons.

Bridging the Gap: Impact Through Intervention

We are seeking Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to work across Primary and Secondary settings. Unlike a general assistant, your role is focused on learning outcomes-identifying where a student is struggling and providing the specific scaffolding, tools, and encouragement they need to succeed.

• Targeted Academic Support: Lead small group interventions in Literacy and Numeracy, helping students catch up or keep pace with the curriculum.
• The "How-To" Specialist: Teach students how to learn, focusing on organisation, memory techniques, and confidence-building.
• Career Fast-Track: This is the gold standard of experience for those looking to apply for a PGCE, School Direct, or Masters in Education.
• Weekly Pay: Competitive daily rates of £90 - £95, paid every Friday via Randstad.

Your Role as an LSA

As a Learning Support Assistant, you are the link between the teacher's high-level plan and the student's individual understanding.

• Differentiating Resources: Take a standard lesson and "re-package" it-creating simplified worksheets, visual aids, or word banks-to suit the specific needs of the learners you support.
• Small Group Leadership: Take charge of "breakout" sessions, guiding 3-5 students through a specific task to ensure they aren't overwhelmed by the pace of the main classroom.
• Promoting Independence: Use the "scaffold and fade" technique-providing heavy support initially and gradually stepping back as the student gains the confidence to work alone.
• Progress Tracking: Maintain clear records of student breakthroughs and hurdles, providing vital data to the Class Teacher and SENCO to help shape future lessons.
