Job summary

The Learning Support Assistant (LSA) role is based at an Enfield centre of a large further education college. You will support post-16 students across foundation, vocational and academic courses, including learners with Autism (ASD) and ADHD, in class and 1:1 settings.

The role emphasises developing independence and life skills while maintaining student engagement. Experience with SEND and a proactive, collaborative approach with teaching staff is essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting students aged 16–24 with SEND (Autism/ADHD)
  • Ability to provide in-class and 1:1 support
  • Team Teach training would be an advantage
  • Experience or training in administering emergency epilepsy medication desirable

Learning Support Assistant - Post-16

Location: Enfield
Age Group: 16-24
Setting: Further Education College
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm
Pay: £14.61-£22.32 per hour
Contract: Long-term

A well-established further education college in Enfield is looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join their team and support post-16 students across a range of foundation, vocational and academic courses.

You will be supporting students aged 16-24 with moderate SEND needs, including Autism (ASD) and ADHD, with some students displaying behaviours that can be challenging. The role involves providing in-class and, where required, 1:1 support to help students engage with their learning, develop independence and achieve their educational goals.

The Role
  • Provide classroom and 1:1 support to post-16 students with SEND.
  • Support learners with Autism (ASD), ADHD and complex needs, including students who may display behaviours that challenge.
  • Provide consistent, individualised support to learners who may require dedicated 1:1 assistance to access their learning and participate fully in college life.
  • Help students remain engaged and focused during lessons.
  • Support students to access the curriculum and develop their confidence, independence and life skills.
  • Work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to provide appropriate and effective support.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and use effective strategies to support students who may become dysregulated.
  • Support students across a variety of academic, vocational and functional skills courses.
  • Where required, provide appropriate personal and medical support in line with the student’s individual needs and training.

About You

The college is open to applications from experienced Learning Support Assistants, Teaching Assistants and Support Workers, as well as candidates with a strong interest in developing a career supporting young people.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience supporting young people with SEND, particularly learners with Autism (ASD) and complex needs.
  • Experience providing 1:1 support and adapting your approach to meet individual learning and support needs.
  • Team Teach training would be an advantage, particularly for candidates with experience supporting learners who may become dysregulated or display challenging behaviours.
  • Experience or training in administering emergency epilepsy medication would be highly desirable, as some positions are likely to involve providing dedicated 1:1 support to learners with specific medical needs.
  • A willingness to work collaboratively with teaching staff and follow individual support and care plans.
  • Most importantly, you will be committed to promoting learners' independence, wellbeing and educational development.
