Job summary

Milk Education is partnering with welcoming primary schools across Durham and surrounding areas to recruit compassionate Learning Support Assistants for September 2026. You will support pupils inside and outside the classroom, build confidence, and help them access learning.

We welcome applicants with Level 2 or Level 3 TA qualifications or relevant experience in a primary setting. The role offers long-term, full-time opportunities with potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

Qualifications

  • Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification desirable.
  • Experience in a primary school setting.
  • Experience supporting pupils with a range of learning abilities.
  • Patient, caring and adaptable approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for helping children succeed academically and personally.

Responsibilities

  • Support the class teacher in delivering engaging lessons and learning activities.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group intervention support.
  • Assist pupils with literacy, numeracy, and wider curriculum learning.
  • Support pupils with SEND where required.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, confidence, and independence.
  • Adapt learning resources to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, parents, and school staff.

Learning Support Assistant - Durham

Milk Education is working with a number of welcoming and supportive Primary Schools across Durham and the surrounding areas and is looking to recruit caring, enthusiastic, and dedicated Learning Support Assistants to join schools from September 2026.


Whether you're an experienced Learning Support Assistant, hold a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or have recent experience supporting children within a primary school setting, we'd love to hear from you.


We have a range of long-term, full-time opportunities available, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.


As a Learning Support Assistant, you'll play an important role in helping pupils access learning, build confidence, and achieve their full potential by providing tailored support both inside and outside the classroom.


Key Responsibilities


  • Support the class teacher in delivering engaging lessons and learning activities.
