Job summary

Milk Education is working with welcoming primary schools across Durham and the surrounding areas and is looking to recruit caring, resilient Behaviour Support Assistants to join schools from September 2026.

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you'll provide one-to-one and small-group support, promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing, and collaborate with teachers to create a calm, inclusive learning environment. Competitive weekly pay of £538.55 - £575.00 per week is offered.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting pupils with behavioural, emotional or additional learning needs.
  • Calm, patient and resilient approach to supporting children.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group behaviour support for pupils.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with children.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Support pupils with SEMH, Autism, ADHD, and additional learning needs where required.
  • Assist teachers in creating a calm, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
  • Encourage confidence, resilience, and independence.
  • Record and monitor pupil progress and behaviour where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENDCOs, pastoral teams, parents, and external professionals.

Behaviour Support Assistant - Durham

Milk Education is working with a number of welcoming and supportive Primary Schools across Durham and the surrounding areas and is looking to recruit caring, resilient, and dedicated Behaviour Support Assistants to join schools from September 2026.

Whether you're an experienced Behaviour Support Assistant, hold a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or have recent experience supporting children with behavioural, social, emotional, or additional learning needs, we'd love to hear from you.

We have a range of long-term, full-time opportunities available, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you'll play a key role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning by promoting positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and engagement both inside and outside the classroom. You'll work closely with teachers and pastoral teams to ensure every child has the support they need to thrive.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one and small group behaviour support for pupils.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable.
  • Previous experience working within a school, alternative provision, or youth setting.
  • Experience supporting pupils with behavioural, emotional, or additional learning needs is desirable.
  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach to supporting children.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Passion for making a positive impact on children\'s education and wellbeing.
