Job summary

Step Into Learning is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to provide 1:1 and small group support for learners with diverse needs within an inclusive setting. You will assist the Lead Tutor and SENDCo to promote independence, participation and achievement.

The role requires strong communication, empathy and adaptability to meet individual learner needs and support ILPs with basic IT use and documentation.

Qualifications

  • GCSE Maths and English at Level 2 (or equivalent).
  • Patient, calm and resilient, with empathy and learner-centred approach.
  • Able to build rapport with learners and promote independence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1, small group and classroom support for learners with additional educational, behavioural, social or emotional needs.
  • Support learners up to two days off-site as needed.
  • Promote learner independence, participation and achievement in an inclusive environment.

Tasks

The Learning Support Assistant (LSA) provides 1:1, small group and classroom support for learners with additional educational, behavioural, social or emotional needs. Up to two days will be providing support outside off-site.

Working under the direction of the Lead Tutor and SENDCo, the LSA promotes learner independence, participation and achievement within an inclusive learning environment.

Requirements
  • Maths and English at Level 2 (GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent)
  • Patient, calm and resilient.
  • Empathetic and learner-centred.
  • Builds rapport quickly with learners.
  • Encourages learner independence rather than dependency.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing learner needs.
  • Committed to inclusion and high expectations for every learner.
  • Experience of providing 1:1 and small group support to young people or adults with additional learning needs in an educational, training or youth setting.
  • Experience of supporting learners with SEND, SEMH, autism, ADHD or other additional needs.
  • Understanding of positive behaviour support strategies.
  • Awareness of safeguarding, learner welfare and professional boundaries.
  • Experience of maintaining learner records and contributing to Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
  • Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office and online learning platforms.
  • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with learners on a 1:1 basis.
  • Ability to motivate and encourage learners to achieve their individual goals.
  • Excellent communication and active listening skills.
  • Ability to adapt communication and support strategies to meet individual learner needs.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals and small groups.
  • Ability to manage behaviour positively and consistently under tutor/SENDCo direction.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
