Job summary

Sandwell College is seeking Learning Support Assistants to help students with high needs at a Further Education college in the West Midlands. The role is fixed term until June 2027, part-time and term-time only, working 36 weeks per year.

Salary ranges from £13,635.70 to £15,797.70 pro rata, based on a full-time salary of £24,408 to £28,278. You will collaborate with teaching staff to enable student access to learning and positive outcomes.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C or above or equivalent such as Functional Skills Level 2.
  • Current Level 2 in Literacy, Language and Numeracy.
  • Level 2 subject qualification required.
  • Qualification related to supporting others, health and social care, or teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Work with pupils with complex SEN to support learning and wellbeing.
  • Build positive relationships to support learning and wellbeing.
  • Support learners with complex learning needs, behavioural and SEMH needs.
  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies.
  • Carry out administrative tasks to support the team.

Description

We are recruiting Learning Support Assistants to support students with high needs at a Further Education college in the West Midlands. These roles are fixed term until the end of the academic year in June 2027.

You will work closely with teaching staff and support teams to help students access learning and achieve positive outcomes.

This is a part time, term time only role working 36 weeks per year. Salary will be paid on a pro rata basis, with an actual salary of £13,635.70 to £15,797.70, based on a full time annual salary of £24,408 to £28,278.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with pupils who have a range of complex special educational needs (SEN)
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to support their learning and wellbeing
  • Support learners with complex learning difficulties, behavioural needs, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs
  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies consistently and confidently
  • Carry out administrative tasks as required to support the wider team
  • Provide personal care with confidence, sensitivity, and respect
  • Demonstrate a genuine interest in education and a strong commitment to improving the lives of young people
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Strong understanding of the wide range of student needs within a further education (FE) setting and how these impact achievement of goals
  • Adaptable and resilient, with a genuine desire to make a lasting difference to students’ lives
  • Confident classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Ability to work effectively with students who have a wide range of emotional and physical needs
  • GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C or above, or a recognised equivalent qualification such as Functional Skills Level 2
  • Current skill levels at Level 2 in Literacy, Language, and Numeracy
  • Minimum of a Level 2 subject qualification
  • Qualification related to supporting others, health and social care, or teaching
