Job summary

The University’s Learning Support Service invites applications for a Learning Support Advisor (Disability). Two posts exist: a 25-hour part-time and a 35-hour full-time role.

The successful candidate will provide information, advice and guidance to students with disabilities, develop individualised support plans and PEEPs, and help students access Government funding via DSA. This is an office-based role at Hope Park Campus, with some campus attendance and occasional weekend events.

Qualifications

• Candidates educated to degree level or equivalent.
• Experience providing information, advice and guidance to students in an education setting, preferably Higher Education.
• Experience assessing the needs of disabled students and developing Learning Support Plans and PEEPs.
• Knowledge of identifying reasonable adjustments and non-medical help, and familiarity with funding via Disabled Students’ Allowances is desirable.

Responsibilities

Learning Support Advisor (Disability) 2 Posts - 4ASDW1N

The University’s Student Life provision brings together a range of support services including counselling, mental health and wellbeing, learning support (disability), and student finance. This role sits within a well-established Learning Support Service.

The Learning Support Team is one of the first and ongoing points of contact for both current and prospective students with a broad range of disabilities, learning differences and long-term health conditions, some of which may be complex in nature.

We are seeking candidates who are educated to degree level or equivalent, and who ideally hold a relevant qualification and/or training, with significant experience of providing information, advice, and guidance to students within an education setting, preferably Higher Education.

Candidates should have experience and a background in assessing the needs of disabled students. They should be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of identifying reasonable adjustments, non-medical help, and of developing individualised Learning Support Plans and Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs). Recent knowledge and experience of supporting students to apply for and access funding through the Government’s Disabled Students’ Allowances scheme is also desirable.

Excellent communication, time management, and organisational skills are essential, along with the ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines within a busy working environment. Candidates should also demonstrate a proactive, solution-focussed approach to their work, with excellent attention to detail in relation to record-keeping and administration.

These posts are permanent subject to a 12-month probationary period.

Salary: £33,002 - £37,694 (Grade 6) (pro rata to hours worked for the part-time post) per annum
