Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a Learning Mentor with a focus on behaviour to work in a Rochdale school. You will support some of the most vulnerable students through one-to-one or small group sessions, building trusted relationships that drive positive change in behaviour and academic engagement.

The role requires emotional resilience, a calm approach under pressure, and a genuine commitment to helping young people grow in confidence and achievement. Term-time and full-time permanent position.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a behaviour support, mentoring, or pastoral role within school, alternative provision, or social care settings.
  • Confident, solutions-focused approach to challenging behaviour with belief in every student's potential.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with young people, families and professionals.
  • Emotionally resilient and adaptable in difficult or unpredictable situations.

Responsibilities

  • Support behaviour through one-to-one or small group work with pupils.
  • Deliver behaviour support sessions, conduct home visits, or support in class as needed.
  • Build trusting relationships to foster confidence, attitude and achievement in students.
  • Provide safeguarding and welfare support in line with school policy.

Job description

Job Title: Learning Mentor – Behaviour Support
Area: Rochdale, Greater Manchester
Start Date: Tuesday 1 st September 2026
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Daily Rate £600 - £750 per week (depending on experience)
Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm, Term time

About the Role:

As a Learning Mentor with a focus on behaviour, you'll work closely with some of the school's most vulnerable students - building the kind of trusted, one-to-one relationships that create real and lasting change. Whether you're delivering a behaviour support session, conducting a home visit, or sitting alongside a student in class, your presence will make a tangible difference every single day.

This is a role for someone who is emotionally intelligent, calm under pressure, and genuinely motivated by seeing young people grow in confidence, attitude, and achievement.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience in a behaviour support, mentoring, or pastoral role - ideally within a school, alternative provision, or social care setting
  • A confident, solutions-focused approach to challenging behaviour with a genuine belief in every student's potential
  • Strong relationship-building skills with young people, families, and professional colleagues
  • Emotionally resilient, adaptable, and calm in difficult or unpredictable situations
  • Experience working with vulnerable pupils or those with social, emotional, and mental health needs
  • Knowledge of restorative approaches and/or pastoral support planning would be a real advantage

To Be Eligible You Must:

  • Hold Right to Work in the UK
  • Have an enhanced DBS certificate already on the update service or be willing to apply for a new one
  • Provide two professional references from child-related roles
  • Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
