Job Role: Learning Disability Support Worker

Service: Guernsey House & Park Drive Supported Living

Hours: 1 x 24 Hours per week ,

Hours per week: Part-time

This role is open to Female applicants only as requested by our female residents to ensure the comfort and dignity who require personal care

Salary: £12.21

Location: Ellesmere Port

About The Services

In this role, you'll have the opportunity to work across two of our disability-supported living services in Ellesmere Port - Guernsey House and Park Drive.

Guernsey House is home to three women in their 20s who each use wheelchairs, one of which is non-verbal and communicates with Makaton, and they all have a shared passion for fashion, beauty, shopping, and coffee trips. Then, Park Drive is home to two men and a lady with diverse needs who each enjoy a range of hobbies and engaging in their local community. We're seeking team members who can share in these individuals' passions and provide support with a keen sense of fun and motivation.

A Day in the Life of a Learning Disability Support Worker

As a Learning Disability Support Worker, no two days are alike - much like the diverse individuals we support. Our approach revolves around person-centered planning, tailoring our services to suit the distinct requirements of each person we support. We are deeply committed to working towards positive outcomes for every individual, celebrating even the smallest milestones on their journey to personal growth. As a Support Worker, you'll be equipped with comprehensive training to provide a wide range of assistance, including personal care, behavioural support, fostering independence and confidence, and nurturing positive relationships through effective communication.

Working patterns can be full or part time, and options for weekend shifts and 'sleep-ins'. On a sleep-in shift, you'll have a private space with your own bed, remaining on-site overnight and available to respond quickly if needed, though it's expected that interruptions during the night will be minimal.

This role is open to female applicants only to ensure the comfort and dignity of female residents who require personal care. If you're interested but don't meet this specification, please get in touch, as we have other roles that welcome all applicants.

Our Employee Benefits

As a charity, we do what we can to show our teams that we value them and the life-changing work they do, so we offer the following:

  • Welcome Bonus: You'll receive £500 as a warm welcome to the team. Not eligible if we pay to sponsor you to work in the UK
  • Training and Development: We offer access to both in-house and accredited courses. We will cover the cost of your qualification, and on completing Level 2 or above, you'll receive a £150 bonus (with an additional £50 for passing the care certificate).
  • Health and Wellbeing Support: offering health and wellbeing support including 24/7 access to GP.
  • Blue Light Card and other discount schemes: We cover the cost of your card, unlocking various discounts for you. Enjoy discounts on childcare, shopping, and a wide range of online training courses.

  • Christmas Enhancement (Double Time): Enjoy double-time pay for allocated Christmas hours worked.
  • Ongoing Technological Advancements: Benefit from our investment in new technology, including care plans and Rota apps, with full training provided.
  • Get Paid As You Earn - With FlexEarn, you don't have to wait for payday. WCL gives you access to a portion of your earnings as soon as you've worked the hours. It's a great way to stay on top of your finances, cover unexpected costs, or just have a bit more flexibility with your money.

What We're Looking For

Although previous experience would be great, it's not essential, as all training and qualifications are provided on the job! The following attributes would be hugely beneficial:

  • Experience with Makaton communication
  • Full UK Driver's license
  • An interest and willingness to engage in the hobbies of the people we support at Guernsey House and Park Drive

Dedication to embracing innovation, valuing each colleague's unique contributions, and fostering a supportive and empowering work environment, are all key to who we are at WCL. If you're driven to transform lives, you'll fit right in with us.
