Job summary

Midlothian Council’s Loanhead Primary School is seeking two Learning Assistants ASN to support learners in a nursery and in mainstream classes. The posts are 20 hours per week on a fixed-term contract ending 29 June 2027, with working pattern Monday to Thursday 09:00–13:30 and Friday 09:00–12:15, across 39 weeks per year.

Candidates should be kind, patient, and capable of building positive relationships, providing personalised support and engaging learning experiences to help every child reach

Qualifications

• Evidence of basic literacy and numeracy at Standard Grade General level or SVQ2 in Early Years Care and Education, or National Certificate unit in Childcare & Education, or equivalent competency.
• Familiar with child development and can respond to individual pupil needs.
• Previous experience in this field of work is preferred.
• Willing to undertake additional training such as first aid and calm techniques.

Responsibilities

• Support learners in nursery and mainstream classes with encouragement and personalised assistance.
• Build positive relationships to help learners feel confident, supported and ready to learn.
• Provide engaging learning experiences that help every child achieve their potential.
• Work with nursery and school teams to monitor progress and adapt support as needed.
