Job summary

Midlothian Council is advertising a Learning Assistant ASN at St Matthew's RC Primary School. The post is a fixed-term contract ending 29th June 2027, with 27.5 hours per week across 39 weeks per year, and the appointment will follow the council’s salary scale.

Applicants must have basic literacy and numeracy qualifications and be familiar with child development to support individual pupils. PVG scheme membership is required for regulated work with children.

Qualifications

• Evidence of basic literacy and numeracy at Standard Grade General level or SVQ2 in Early Years Care and Education, or National Certificate unit in Childcare & Education, or equivalent competency, to enable the jobholder to communicate effectively with staff and pupils, and provide sensitive support.
• The jobholder must be familiar with child development and able to respond to the needs of individual pupils.
• To be fully competent in the role jobholders will be required to undertake additional training courses e.g. first aid, calm techniques.
• If the post is within a Nursery Environment then the Jobholder must be registered with or obtain membership with the SSSC within 6 months of appointment.
