Job summary

Amey is seeking an L&D Manager to join our Transport Infrastructure People Team. This full-time, fixed-term (12 months) position offers flexible working arrangements, including remote or hybrid, with regular travel across the UK.

The role focuses on delivering a wide range of training initiatives and supporting strategic learning across the business. You will partner with the L&D Partner, design and implement development plans, build stakeholder relationships, and drive measurable learning

Qualifications

  • CIPD Level 5 qualification or progression is expected.
  • Experience in a People/HR professional role with service delivery experience.
  • Proficient in core Microsoft applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook).
  • Ability to deliver training to colleagues at all levels and manage stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and needs-identification capabilities.
  • Positive, proactive, flexible team player with collaboration and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Managing, planning, designing, implementing and delivering Learning & Development initiatives across the business.
  • Building strong, credible relationships with managers to identify learning needs and craft solutions.
  • Maintaining stakeholder relationships to ensure business requirements are met and learning provides measurable value.
  • Developing plans to coordinate large-scale, multi-department development programmes.
  • Supporting the L&D Partner to embed capability-building initiatives like skills matrices and PDPs.
  • Advising and coaching managers on development planning and learning approaches.
  • Collaborating with managers to design bespoke soft-skills courses for team needs.
  • Leveraging multi-component learning solutions to reinforce learning and sustainable change.

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a L&D Manager to join our Transport Infrastructure People Team.

This is a full ‑ time, fixed term (approx. 12 months) position offering flexible working arrangements , whether remote or hybrid , with regular travel across the UK.

In this role, you will work closely with the L&D Partner, taking a key role in managing, coordinating and delivering a wide range of company training and development initiatives. You’ll support the organisation in meeting its learning needs, shaping high‑quality development experiences, and contributing to the ongoing strategic evolution of learning across the business.

The role is based on 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

You will be responsible for:
  • Managing, planning, designing, implementing and delivering Learning & Development initiatives, including all existing company ‑ wide training requirements.
  • Building strong, credible relationships with managers and colleagues to help identify learning needs and create tailored development solutions that meet those needs.
  • Working closely with managers across the business to maintain strong stakeholder relationships, ensuring business requirements are met and that the L&D function provides measurable, value ‑ adding support.
  • Developing training plans to track, monitor and coordinate large ‑ scale, multi ‑ department development programmes.
  • Supporting the L&D Business Partner to embed cultural and capability ‑ building initiatives such as skills matrices and the PDP process.
  • Advising, guiding and coaching managers on development planning, learning approaches and broader development issues.
  • Collaborating with managers to design bespoke soft ‑ skills training courses that meet specific team or business needs.
  • Leveraging multi ‑ component learning solutions and support frameworks to reinforce learning and embed sustainable behavioural change.
We want to hear from you if you have:
  • CIPD qualified to Level 5 (or working towards it) and/or keen to continue developing your professional expertise.
  • Experience in a People Professional role from a similar ‑ sized organisation and sector, bringing a strong blend of HR service delivery experience.
  • Confident with core Microsoft applications, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook.
  • Able to confidently deliver training to colleagues at all levels, from frontline teams through to senior stakeholders.
  • Skilled at identifying and applying knowledge, with the ability to analyse needs and focus support where it is most required.
  • A positive, proactive and flexible team player who thrives on collaboration, problem ‑ solving and making a meaningful impact.
