Job summary

Fresh Futures seeks a Learning and Behaviour Support Worker for the Brian Jackson College team in Heckmondwike. You will work with a pupil with an EHCP in a SEMH provision, supporting academic progress and personal development.

You will assist with behavioural interventions, promote engagement, and help pupils build independence and life skills across daily activities and offsite visits. A proactive, empathetic approach is essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience within SEMH and behavioural needs setting.
  • Experience of working with young people at KS3 & KS4 in an educational setting.
  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English; teaching assistant qualification desirable.
  • Experience of safeguarding children in education.
  • Knowledge of EHCPs.
  • Positive handling training desirable.
  • Driving licence desirable and willing to travel across both provisions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs to help reduce barriers to learning.
  • Assist with delivery of lessons and support tutors to promote engagement and positive behaviour.
  • Support pupils during offsite visits and vocational activities; promote life skills and independence.
  • Work proactively with new pupils assisting in smooth transitions to Brian Jackson College.
  • Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate behavioural improvement plans; maintain records.
  • Report safeguarding concerns promptly and adhere to health and safety policies.

Job description

Hours of Work: 30.75 hours per week, 45.6 weeks per year: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday- 08:30-15:00 and Wednesday- 08:30-15:45
Salary: £19,027.85 annual actual £13.57 per hour.
Location: Brian Jackson College, Vision House, High Street, Heckmondwike, WF16 0AD

THE ROLE

An exciting opportunity has become available within Fresh Futures’ Brian Jackson College team. We are seeking an enthusiastic learning and behaviour support worker to join our team working directly with one of our pupils in receipt of an education health and care plan (EHCP). Working within a specialised social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) provision, the successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting 13-16 year olds both academically and socially to support our organisation’s mission

Why the role exists and overall responsibility
  • Provide support to young people with social emotional and mental health needs to help reduce barriers to learning, improve attainment and educational outcomes
  • To implement behavioural interventions to support engagement and promote self-confidence and improve emotional wellbeing of all pupils

Main activities

Pupil/client facing

  • Assist with pupils social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs with guidance from the

Behaviour Lead and Pastoral management team.

  • Contribute to the delivery of successful lessons by providing supporting to tutors
  • Encourage pupils to remain engaged in their education whilst promoting positive behaviour
  • Support pupils during offsite visits and vocational educational activities
  • Promote independence and life skills through student led activities
  • Assist and support pupils with the development of key life skills
  • To work proactively with new pupils assisting in a successful transition to Brian Jackson College
  • To assist in the development, implementation, review, monitoring and evaluation of behavioural improvement and support plans
  • Any other duties relevant to the FF and Brian Jackson College
  • Actively support the staff team in the behaviour management of pupils between lessons and at social times

Processes and procedures

  • To operate within agreed professional, ethical and school policies when working with pupils and those involved with them
  • Report safeguarding concerns to the safeguarding team in a timely manner
  • Report Health and Safety concerns to admin in a timely manner

Admin based

  • Completing all relevant pupil documentation and record keeping

Safeguarding Duties and Responsibilities

  • proactively ensuring the effective implementation of Child Protection and other related policies
  • ensuring full compliance with all relevant statutory regulations as well as all school policies, Health & Safety regulations etc.
  • communicating effectively with all relevant stakeholders including colleagues, students, parents and outside agencies as appropriate.

Knowledge, training and experience required

  • Experience within SEMH and behavioural needs setting
  • Experience of working with young people at KS3 & KS4 in an educational setting (formal or non formal) setting
  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English. Teaching assistant qualification (desirable)
  • Experience of Safeguarding children in education
  • Knowledge of childhood trauma (desirable)
  • Positive handling training (desirable)
  • Must have a solid understanding of nurture and be willing to adapt to the colleges nurturing ethos
  • Driving licence desirable and willing to travel across both provisions
  • Must have a solid understanding of EHCP’s
