Job summary

Oaks Park High School is seeking a Lead Wellbeing Mentor to join our Wellbeing Team. You will deliver tailored 1:1 mentoring, group interventions, and holistic pastoral support to identified students, helping them thrive academically and personally.

You will liaise with parents and external agencies, maintain accurate records, support safeguarding, and contribute to a strong CPD programme within our ambitious, inclusive school community.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or above.
• Level 3 qualification in counselling, youth work, mental health or related field.
• Accredited safeguarding training and willingness to complete further as needed.
• Experience delivering 1:1 mentoring and therapeutic group work with adolescents.

Responsibilities

• Deliver specialist 1:1 mentoring for identified students.
• Plan and run structured group sessions (Social Skills, Anger Management, etc.).
• Monitor progress using tracking tools and maintain records.
• Attend PSP/IEP meetings and coordinate with parents and carers.
• Liaise with parents, schools, and external agencies (CAMHS, EPs, Social Workers).
• Provide guidance to staff on wellbeing policies and contribute to INSET training.
• Uphold safeguarding standards and manage welfare concerns promptly.

Do you possess the dedication, empathy, and specialist skills needed to support students facing social, emotional, behavioural, or mental health challenges?, Oaks Park High School is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Lead Wellbeing Mentor to join our Wellbeing Team. In this vital role, you will work directly with identified students to provide tailored 1:1 mentoring, group interventions, and holistic pastoral support, empowering them to thrive academically and personally.,

• 1:1 Student Mentoring: Provide specialist 1:1 mentoring for students with social, emotional, behavioural, and mental health needs; serve as an advocate, confidante, and key contact for exit cards and open-door emergency support.
• Targeted Group Interventions: Plan, organise, and run structured group sessions including Social Skills Groups, Anger Management, Friendship Groups, and Drawing and Talking Therapy.
• Student Tracking & Record Keeping: Monitor and track student progress using Target Tick Sheets; maintain accurate, organised records of concerns, observations, and actions taken.
• IEP & PSP Reviews: Attend Pastoral Support Plan (PSP) meetings and gather feedback for Individual Education Plan (IEP) reviews, setting targets and arranging meetings with parents and carers.
• Multi-Agency & Parent Liaison: Liaise with parents/carers, primary schools, and external specialist agencies (including CAMHS, Hear and Now counselling, Child Protection Coordinator, Educational Psychologists, and Social Workers).
• Staff Guidance & Training: Keep relevant school staff informed on a need-to-know basis, offer advice on student wellbeing and self-harm policies, and provide INSET training where required.
• Safeguarding & Student Welfare: Uphold the highest child protection standards, making timely referrals and ensuring student safety and wellbeing at all times.
  Qualifications & Training: GCSE English & Maths (Grade 4/C or above); Level 3 qualification in counselling, youth work, mental health, psychology, or related field; accredited training (or willingness to complete immediately) in Safeguarding, Youth Mental Health First Aid, self-harm and suicide risk escalation, and First Aid.
• Experience & Knowledge: Proven track record of delivering 1:1 student mentoring and therapeutic group interventions (e.g., social skills, anger management); strong understanding of adolescent mental health needs and child protection; experience using safeguarding systems (e.g., MyConcern, Bromcom).
• Core Skills & Attributes: Exceptional organisational skills to balance crisis response, daily tracking, and caseloads; ability to remain calm and empathetic under high pressure; excellent communication skills for liaising with parents, teaching staff, and external agencies.
• Desirable Qualifications & Experience: Level 4+ counselling/therapeutic qualification; training in SEND, autism, ADHD, trauma-informed care, or suicide prevention (ASIST); experience coordinating external clinical referrals (e.g., CAMHS, MHST) or delivering staff INSET.
