Job summary

National Grid is recruiting a Lead Transmission Engineer for Overhead Lines or HV Cable. The role supports the electricity transmission system across the country with a hybrid working model and multiple office bases including Warwick, Bristol, London and Leeds.

You will lead design assurance activities, supervise technical reviews, and mentor junior staff while coordinating with project teams to ensure safe, reliable delivery of green energy projects.

Qualifications

• HND or degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience.
• Background in either overhead lines or cables is essential, with authorisations to internal processes as an advantage.
• Knowledge and experience in design activities, routing/siting, installation and writing/reviewing technical documentation for OHL or HV cable systems.
• Lead roles require extensive experience, potentially with consultants, contractors or partner organisations.

Responsibilities

• Specify, assess and assure equipment and designs for the electricity transmission system.
• Undertake technical assurance reviews of designs from suppliers/contractors at each project stage.
• Collaborate with a technical team across England and Wales through the full project lifecycle.
• Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing where applicable.
• Share knowledge through training, mentoring and supporting the team.
