Job summary

OHL is seeking an experienced OHL Engineering Manager on a client-side role to support onshore transmission projects in the UK. You will provide technical leadership across the OHL scope, working with designers, EPCs and suppliers to ensure solutions meet project needs.

The role involves reviewing designs, challenging proposals, coordinating interfaces and guiding the early development and procurement phases with potential extension into later stages. UK-based flexible/remote work is supported.

Qualifications

• Extensive HV overhead line engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of OHL design, engineering and project delivery.
• Experience reviewing proposals and engineering submissions.
• Experience coordinating with designers, EPCs and suppliers.
• familiarity with UK transmission standards.

Responsibilities

OHL ENGINEERING MANAGER - CLIENT SIDE - ONSHORE TRANSMISSION - OHL (OVERHEAD LINES) - HIGH VOLTAGE ENGINEERING

Location: UK / Flexible (Remote)

Contract: Freelance / Contract

Sector: Power Grids - Onshore Transmission / Overhead Lines

The Opportunity

We are looking to speak with highly experienced OHL Engineering Managers interested in supporting the delivery of major new onshore transmission infrastructure in the UK.

The successful individual would act as the client's technical eyes and ears for the overhead line scope, working closely with designers, OEMs, EPC contractors and other delivery partners to ensure the proposed technical solutions meet project requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide client-side technical leadership across the OHL engineering scope.
• Act as the primary technical interface between the client, engineering designers, EPC contractors and key suppliers.
• Review engineering proposals, designs and technical submissions on behalf of the client.
• Provide technical challenge and assurance throughout design and project development.
• Coordinate technical interfaces between OHL packages and the wider transmission project.
• Support contractor and supplier tendering, technical evaluations and engineering discussions.
• Identify technical risks, design issues and interface challenges throughout project development.
• Provide specialist OHL knowledge to support the wider project and commercial teams.
• Ensure engineering solutions align with applicable transmission standards and project requirements.
• Support the project through its early development and procurement phases with the potential to continue into subsequent stages.

Requirements:

• Extensive engineering experience within high-voltage overhead line transmission infrastructure.
• Strong technical knowledge of OHL design, engineering and project delivery.
• Previous experience working for National Grid, another major transmission utility or a leading transmission EPC contractor would be highly advantageous.
• Experience managing technical interfaces with engineering consultants, designers, EPC contractors and suppliers.
• Strong understanding of UK transmission standards and engineering requirements.
