Job summary

The Manchester College invites applications for a Lead Technician (Animal Care) at the Wythenshawe campus in Manchester. The role is permanent, full-time (35 hours per week) with weekend work and a focus on animal welfare and curriculum support.

You will lead a team of Animal Care Technicians, support the Animal Management curriculum, and ensure high welfare standards across the facility. DBS checks and safeguarding responsibilities are part of the process.

Qualifications

We have an exciting opportunity at our Wythenshawe campus to join our Sport, Public Services and Care Professions Department as a Lead Technician (Animal Care) on a permanent, full‑time (35 hours per week) basis.Weekend working is a key requirement of this role as part of the ongoing care and welfare needs of the animals.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring high standards of animal welfare, supporting the delivery of the Animal Management curriculum, and line managing a team of Animal Care Technicians.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Level 2 English & Mathematics.
  • NVQ level 2 in an industry relevant qualification.
  • First Aid qualification (or be prepared to work towards within first year).
  • Specific relevant industry experience, including functional responsibilities.
  • Management of stock control, budgets.
  • Ability to supervise cross site teams.
