Job description

LOCATION: This position requires on-site presence five days a week at a secure, controlled information facility in Sterling, Virginia.

CLEARANCE: The candidate must possess an active US DOD TS/SCI security clearance.

We seek a Senior Systems Engineer to collaborate with agile teams on complex DoD projects, particularly developing command and control (C2) software. The role involves building an innovative cloud-based C2 system that integrates capabilities and enhances mission efficiency through automation. The candidate will support configuration management activities alongside software development teams and capability providers.

Role & Responsibilities:

  1. Establish and document configuration management (CM) procedures.
  2. Coordinate with IPT Leads to identify configuration items.
  3. Manage releases of work products and changes.
  4. Facilitate configuration control boards, including preparing agendas, minutes, and action items.
  5. Work with the COTS/FOSS Manager to verify and archive asset baselines.
  6. Review CM activities with management.
  7. Ensure subcontractor CM compliance.
  8. Train personnel in CM processes and tools.
  9. Generate CM metrics and maintain baselines.
  10. Support program completion activities, resolving CM issues.
  11. Contribute to the Software Version Description (SVD) documentation.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Minimum 8+ years of systems engineering experience (5+ with a STEM B.S.).
  2. Experience with classified DoD programs in secure facilities.
  3. Proven experience with CM procedures and documentation.
  4. Experience with DoD command and control (C2) software projects.
  5. Leadership or coordination experience with IPTs and CCBs.
  6. Familiarity with cloud platforms; cloud architect or operations certification is a plus.
  7. Knowledge of COTS/FOSS management and asset verification.
  8. Experience with CM tools, automation, and metrics reporting.
  9. Experience with system architecture and related artifacts, including SVD.
  10. Experience with program gate reviews and assessments.
  11. Must be a US citizen with an active TS/SCI clearance.
  12. Ability to work onsite in Sterling, VA.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with cloud-based C2 and geospatial systems.
  2. Knowledge of agile development methodologies.
  3. Experience in contractor relationships and compliance monitoring.
  4. Ability to train personnel in CM processes.
  5. Background in complex systems engineering.
  6. Knowledge of automation for mission planning.
  7. Experience with program closure and issue resolution.
  8. Understanding of software development lifecycle in agile environments.
  9. Knowledge of application architecture patterns.
  10. Strong learning agility and pragmatic thinking.
  11. Attention to detail in system implementation.
  12. Willingness to travel as needed.

Salary Range: $107,900 – $149,500 USD, influenced by experience, skills, and education.
