Job description

If you're currently working as a Senior Care Assistant, Team Leader, Senior Support Worker, Shift Leader, or experienced Support Worker, this is a fantastic opportunity to step into a Lead Support Worker role and further develop your leadership career. At Dimensions, we believe in growing talent from within. Alongside making a real difference in people's lives, you'll have access to structured development opportunities, ongoing training, coaching, and clear career pathways that can support progression into senior leadership and management roles across the organisation. As a Lead Support Worker, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the people we support receive high-quality, person-centred support. Working closely with your Locality Manager and Assistant Locality Manager, you'll be supported in your role while becoming a trusted role model for your colleagues. This position offers a rewarding blend of hands on support and leadership, giving you the opportunity to make a real difference every day. No two days will be the same. You'll support individuals to build their independence, develop new skills and make meaningful choices about their lives. Using approaches such as Activate and Active Support, you'll help set and achieve personalised goals, recognising opportunities for growth in everyday moments. You'll also provide practical support with daily routines, including personal care, medication, meal preparation, shopping and maintaining a comfortable home environment, always ensuring individuals feel respected and in control of their support.

Alongside your direct support responsibilities, you'll play a key role in developing your team. You'll coach and mentor support workers, share best practice, provide thoughtful feedback and help foster a positive, inclusive team culture. You'll contribute to support reviews, drive continuous improvement and ensure all practices align with Dimensions' values, policies and regulatory standards. Building strong relationships with families, circles of support and colleagues will be central to your success. Flexibility is essential in this role. As a Lead Support Worker, you'll work across all five homes in the Colchester area, covering a range of shifts including weekends and bank holidays.

You will be a great fit for this role if you:

  • Lead with empathy, confidence and a genuine desire to help people live the lives they choose.
  • Communicate clearly, offer constructive feedback, and naturally lead by example.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with families, colleagues and the people we support.
  • Are open to learning, willing to try new approaches and committed to good, consistent practice.
  • Appreciate being part of a team where everyone's ideas and contributions matter.
  • Reliability, adaptability and flexibility, including working weekends and bank holidays when needed.
  • The ability to stay calm under pressure and make thoughtful decisions.
  • Motivation to help people build independence and confidence, whether they are colleagues or the people we support.

At Dimensions, you'll find more than a job. You'll find purpose, belonging, and a genuine opportunity to build a rewarding career. We're one of the UK's largest not-for-profit social care organisations, supporting people with learning disabilities and autistic people to have choice and control over their lives.
