Job summary

First People Solutions is supporting a leading consulting engineer in Manchester to grow their structural capability across transportation, defence, energy, and built environment sectors. This Principal Structural Engineer role offers ownership of major projects and a chance to shape technical delivery.

You will lead and mentor engineers, review designs for quality and compliance, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust solutions.

Qualifications

• Chartered engineer (MIStructE or MICE) with demonstrable leadership experience.
• Experience leading structural engineering teams on complex projects.
• Strong understanding of structural analysis, design principles, and UK standards.
• Experience across various structural forms and materials.
• Ability to balance technical delivery with commercial awareness.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Background in multidisciplinary project environments.
• Knowledge of health, safety and CDM requirements.

Responsibilities

• Providing technical leadership across a range of complex engineering projects.
• Managing and mentoring structural engineers at varying levels of experience.
• Reviewing and approving design information to ensure quality and compliance.
• Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams and project stakeholders.
• Supporting project planning, resource allocation and commercial performance.
• Identifying project risks and developing practical engineering solutions.
• Contributing to bids, proposals and business development activities.
