Introduction
The Strategic Estates (SE) team at the House of Commons is responsible for ensuring that Parliament is a safe, efficient, and welcoming place to work and visit. This includes managing buildings and delivering capital projects across the Parliamentary Estate, which forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As part of this, the Heritage Collections Team (HCT) provides expert care and management for the UK Parliament's historic collections, including the Architectural Fabric Collection, the Historic Furniture and Decorative Arts Collection, and the Parliamentary Art Collection. This role sits within the Collections Management Team and supports our work in preserving and relocating these significant collections.
The Role
We are looking for a proactive and experienced heritage professional to lead a small team in the decant and relocation of the Parliamentary Heritage Collections to a new storage facility. Based primarily at current storage locations, the postholder will oversee the safe preparation, handling, and transportation of objects, while maintaining high standards of collections care and accurate documentation. This is a hands-on, collaborative role that requires strong planning, leadership, and technical skills.
