Placements24 is seeking a Lead Solar PV Systems Designer for a fully remote role. You will conceptualize, design, and engineer high-performance PV systems for projects across Africa and beyond, collaborating with a global team.

The role requires 10+ years in solar design, leadership of design teams, and strong knowledge of PV software and HV interconnection. A PE or equivalent is highly desirable, with a strong remote-work capability.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and engineering of utility-scale and commercial solar PV systems.
• Develop system layouts, single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, and component specifications.
• Perform energy yield assessments and system performance simulations using industry-standard software.
• Select appropriate PV modules, inverters, mounting structures, and balance-of-system components.
• Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies, providing technical recommendations.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant electrical codes, standards (e.g., IEC, NRS), and client requirements.
• Collaborate closely with project management, procurement, and construction teams to ensure seamless project execution.
• Mentor and guide junior design engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in solar PV technology and industry trends.
• Prepare technical documentation, including design reports, bill of materials, and construction drawings.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in the design and engineering of solar PV systems.
• Extensive experience with solar design software such as PVsyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD, and SketchUp.
• Deep understanding of PV module technologies, inverter functionality, battery storage systems, and grid interconnection requirements.
• Proven ability to lead design teams and manage complex design projects effectively.
• Strong knowledge of national and international electrical codes and standards applicable to solar installations.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, particularly in a remote team environment.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) or equivalent registration is highly desirable.
• Experience with medium and high-voltage system design is a significant advantage.
