Job summary

Government Recruitment Service in Paisley is advertising a permanent full-time Small Craft Surveyor – Naval Architect role within the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

The successful candidate will survey and inspect small/non-convention vessels to ensure compliance with UK and international safety, security and environmental standards and will issue certification and advise vessel owners and industry colleagues.

Responsibilities

• As directed by the Technical Manager or Principal Marine Surveyor, provide training to or coach Marine Surveyor colleagues on MCA Survey and Inspection activities to ensure consistent implementation.
• Carry out surveys leading to statutory certificates for small/non-convention vessels; act as lead surveyor in most cases, issue certification, advise public and colleagues, approve ships plans, investigate complaints and witness stability measurements.
• Carry out inspections of small/non-convention vessels and port installations to ensure compliance with international conventions and UK requirements.
• Provide industry and public guidance in line with MCA policies; be the point of contact for communications with designated companies or vessel owners; support a high-quality survey and inspection service.
• Maintain accurate training and competence records; complete development opportunities to ensure skill and impartiality per MCA directions.
