Job summary

Government Recruitment Service in Cardiff is seeking a Small Craft Surveyor to ensure compliance with UK and international safety, security and environmental standards for small and non-convention vessels. You will issue certification, provide expert technical advice to vessel owners and industry colleagues, and support high-quality survey and inspection services across the MCA.

Training and mentoring of colleagues will also be part of your role.

Responsibilities

• Train or coach Marine Surveyor colleagues on specified MCA Survey & Inspection activities to ensure consistency with MCA standards and guidance.
• Carry out surveys leading to the issue of statutory certificates for small vessels; act as lead surveyor in all but the most complex cases, including issuing certification and inspecting ships and plans.
• Carry out inspections of small vessels and port installations to ensure compliance with international conventions and UK requirements.
• Provide advice to industry and the public in accordance with MCA policies and act as point of contact for vessel owners.
• Maintain training and competence records; complete development opportunities to ensure skill profiles are up-to-date.
