Job summary

Skilled Careers is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor in Hertfordshire to lead the commercial management of a major education project. You will manage a small team, oversee cost control, budgeting and reporting, and drive commercial decisions with project stakeholders.

The role offers a base salary of £80,000–£90,000 with car allowance and a bonus, reflecting senior responsibility on a landmark build.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor in a main contractor environment.
• Experience on large-scale new-build construction projects.
• Strong commercial, contractual and financial management skills.
• Experience mentoring or developing junior commercial team members.
• Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Proactive mindset with attention to detail and commercial judgment.
• Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.

Responsibilities

• Lead the commercial management of the project from procurement through to final account.
• Mentor and develop a team of two commercial professionals.
• Own cost control, forecasting, budgeting and financial reporting.
• Manage subcontract procurement, valuations, variations and contractual negotiations.
• Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities to maximise value.
• Collaborate with project managers, site teams, clients and supply chain partners.
• Ensure robust commercial processes are followed throughout the lifecycle.
• Drive best practice and maintain commercial discipline on the scheme.
