Job summary

Skilled Careers is seeking a commercially minded Quantity Surveyor to join a close-knit three-person commercial team on a landmark education project in Hertfordshire. You will own day-to-day commercial tasks, from procurement and cost control to valuations and final accounts, ensuring the scheme is delivered on time and on budget.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within a main contractor environment.
• Experience working on new-build construction projects.
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of cost control, procurement and contract administration.
• Ability to manage subcontractors, valuations, variations and final accounts.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and organisational skills.
• A proactive approach with attention to detail and ownership of responsibilities.
• A relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.
• Experience on education projects is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day commercial aspects from procurement through to final accounts.
• Monitor project costs, budgets, forecasts and financial performance.
• Oversee subcontract procurement, valuations, variations and payments.
• Prepare and maintain accurate commercial reports and cost forecasts.
• Identify and manage commercial risks to protect profitability.
• Collaborate with project managers, site teams, clients and supply chain partners.
• Ensure contractual obligations and processes are followed throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support delivery of the scheme while maintaining commercial control.
