Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Glasgow seeks a senior Protection & Control engineer to lead UK P&C design activities for high‑voltage projects. You will develop substation protection schemes, perform power system studies, and produce detailed design packages in accordance with UK standards.

The role requires mentoring junior engineers, coordinating with cross‑functional teams, and maintaining safety by design across projects in the T&D practice.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
Minimum 7 years of protection & control design in electricity transmission & distribution, with 5+ years on UK projects.
Knowledge of UK Health & Safety regulations and CDM.
Experience with National Grid TP137/TP141 procedures.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

Lead P&C design on projects from 11kV to 400kV, including lead Project Engineer duties.
Produce detailed P&C design packages compliant with ENA/BS/IEC/IEEE standards.
Perform power system studies to set protection settings.
Mentor less experienced engineers and mentor the UK P&C section.
Ensure CDM compliance and IMS alignment on all work.
