Job summary

Taylor Hopkinson | Powered by Brunel in Scotland is seeking a Lead P&C Project Engineer for a major infrastructure project. This role covers protection and control engineering across development and delivery phases.

You will configure equipment, assess third‑party FATs, support multi‑disciplinary teams, and contribute to digital design and standardisation efforts.

Qualifications

• Experience in transmission protection and control application specification, panel and scheme design, and protection settings calculation.
• Ability to demonstrate engineering diligence and to critically assess problems and solutions.
• Experience assessing third‑party FATs and managing design deliveries.

Responsibilities

• Provide protection and control engineering support across multiple projects, defining technical scope in development phases.
• Configure protection and control equipment per application and scheme requirements, including setting calculations.
• Assess third‑party contractor factory acceptance tests for protection and control equipment.
• Support multidisciplinary teams in identifying and managing engineering risks and opportunities for excellence.
• Contribute to digital design capabilities and scheme standardisation works.

Job description

Lead P&C Project Engineer for a major infrastructure project in Scotland

Responsible for

• Provide protection and control engineering support across multiple projects, by assessing and defining the technical scope requirements during development phases, before evaluating third-party detailed designs as the project moves into delivery, predominantly panel and scheme designs.
• Configure protection and control equipment according to the application and scheme requirement, including the calculation and preparation of protection settings. Ideally, candidates will be experienced in both scheme design and setting preparation
• Assess and adjudicate third-party contractor factory acceptance tests on protection and control equipment for new build and retrofit applications.
• Support multi-disciplinary project teams in identifying and managing engineering risks and identifying opportunities for the project to excel.
• Take responsibility for delivering required outputs to programme and participate in the development of our increasing digital design capabilities and scheme standardisation works.

You have:

• A minimum of HNC level qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• Demonstrable experience and skills in transmission protection and control application specification, panel and scheme design, as well as the skills to calculate protection settings for implementation.
• The ability to demonstrate engineering diligence and the confidence to technically assess problems and critically assess a range of solutions.
