Job summary

Deploy Recruitment Group is seeking an experienced Senior Primary Design Engineer to lead high‑quality primary engineering designs for HV substations and power infrastructure. The role involves mentoring juniors, coordinating with project managers, and engaging with clients across multidisciplinary teams.

The position supports hybrid or remote working arrangements, with significant exposure to major infrastructure and energy transition projects under a FTSE 250 environment.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in primary design within HV substations (e.g. 33kV-400kV).
• Strong knowledge of UK / international standards and utility requirements.
• Proven ability to lead design tasks and review the work of others.
• Chartered or working towards Chartered Engineer status (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of primary engineering solutions for HV substations and associated infrastructure.
• Produce and review primary design deliverables including layouts, GA drawings, equipment specifications, and technical reports.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, client specifications, and safety requirements.
• Provide technical guidance, checking, and mentoring to junior engineers.
• Interface with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support project planning, cost estimates, and risk assessment.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes and standards.
