Job summary

Deploy Recruitment Group is seeking an experienced Senior Primary Design Engineer to lead high‑quality primary engineering designs for HV substations and power infrastructure. You will mentor junior engineers and collaborate with project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams in a FTSE‑level environment.

The role offers hybrid or remote working options and focus on technical delivery, standards compliance, and continuous improvement across major projects in the energy sector.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Significant experience in primary design within HV substations (e.g. 33kV-400kV).
• Strong knowledge of UK / international standards and utility requirements.
• Proven ability to lead design tasks and review the work of others.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Chartered or working towards Chartered Engineer status (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of primary engineering solutions for HV substations and related infrastructure.
• Produce and review primary design deliverables including layouts, GA drawings, equipment specifications, and technical reports.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, client specifications, and safety requirements.
• Provide technical guidance, checking, and mentoring to junior engineers.
• Interface with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support project planning, cost estimates, and risk assessment.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes and standards.
