Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) for a Darlington primary school from September 2026. The role offers a full-time temporary contract with a view to permanency, and a salary of £110–£140 per day depending on experience.

You will lead whole-class activities in the teacher's absence, plan with staff, support EYFS to KS2, and run targeted interventions while promoting inclusive learning and safeguarding best practices.

Qualifications

  • HLTA status or substantial HLTA experience in a primary school.
  • Experience supporting learning across the primary curriculum.
  • Confident leading whole-class learning and managing behaviour.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Positive, flexible and proactive approach to supporting pupils and colleagues.
  • Experience supporting children with SEND and adapting learning to needs.
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting welfare of children.
  • Holds or willing to apply for Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality learning activities to whole classes in the absence of the class teacher.
  • Plan, prepare and adapt learning activities with teaching staff.
  • Support pupils across EYFS, KS1 and KS2 to ensure engaging, inclusive learning.
  • Deliver targeted intervention programmes to individuals and groups.
  • Support children with SEND, SEMH and additional needs through tailored strategies.
  • Promote positive behaviour and create a safe, nurturing environment.
  • Assess pupil progress and provide feedback to inform planning.
  • Work with teachers, SENDCOs, parents and the wider team to support every child.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school through clubs and events.
