Job summary

Emerald Group is seeking a pricing specialist in the UK to lead pricing strategy for travel insurance, balancing profitability with customer fairness and regulatory compliance. You will develop GLMs and ML-based pricing models, using Emblem and Radar to test and refine algorithms.

The role requires collaboration with Underwriting, Marketing, Claims and Product teams, and involves mentoring junior analysts to foster a feedback-driven culture and growth within the team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or related field.
• Strong analytical skills and experience with data analysis tools (Excel, SQL, R/Python desirable).
• Background in actuarial or data science within UK general insurance.
• Hands-on experience building/refining pricing models (GLMs essential; ML desirable).
• Familiarity with Emblem, Radar, Python, R, or SQL; knowledge of FCA pricing reforms.

Job description

Key responsibilities including however, not limited to the following:

• Pricing Strategy Development: Lead the creation and implementation of pricing models and strategies for travel insurance products across both risk and retail, balancing commercial focus with customer fairness and regulatory compliance (FCA, Pricing Practices, etc.)
• Pricing Innovation: Drive innovation in pricing techniques (GLMs, machine learning, data enrichment, etc.) while ensuring clarity and transparency in methods used
• Software Utilisation: Utilise tools such as Emblem and Radar (Live) to develop, test, and refine pricing algorithms and models
• Market Research: Conduct competitive analysis to understand market positioning and identify areas for improvement
• Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on pricing performance, market trends, and recommendations to senior management
• Collaboration: Work closely with Underwriting, Marketing, Claims and Product teams to ensure pricing strategies align with business objectives
• Champion team wellbeing, inclusion, and growth: mentor and develop junior team members with empathy and active support. Embed a feedback-driven culture and regularly participate in company-wide initiatives that support wellbeing, collaboration, and social responsibility
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure pricing strategies comply with relevant regulations and industry standards
