Job summary

The Emerald Group in London is seeking an experienced Pricing Manager to shape pricing strategy for personal lines insurance. You will lead pricing activities, develop models, monitor market trends, and present rate recommendations to senior stakeholders and pricing committees.

You’ll deputise for Head of Pricing, mentor a pricing analyst, and ensure pricing tools and languages such as Python, SQL, Earnix, and Radar are used to drive business value.

Qualifications

  • Degree-level qualification in Mathematics, Science, Engineering, or related field with a 2:1 classification.
  • Minimum pricing experience in personal lines insurance or similar.
  • Expert in predictive modelling and price optimisation with exposure to ML/AI.
  • Proficient in pricing tools and programming languages (Python/SQL).

Responsibilities

  • Lead pricing strategy development in collaboration with Head of Pricing.
  • Own market pricing activities including demand and elasticity modelling.
  • Develop and refine pricing framework and lifetime value modelling inputs.
  • Present rate recommendations to senior stakeholders and pricing committees.
  • Mentor and line-manage pricing analysts.
  • Collaborate with marketing to benchmark competitor pricing.

Job description

In this role you’ll use your deep expertise in market pricing and pricing optimisation to support Pricing strategy by monitoring and analysing market trends and making the best of your unique skill set across market pricing, and loss ratio analysis to deliver actionable insight to the business.

Key responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Work closely with their Head of Pricing to deliver pricing strategy, deputising where needed
  • Lead the development and refinement of pricing strategy in collaboration with the Head of Pricing, providing leadership and guidance to the pricing team
  • Own market pricing activities including development of their demand, elasticity, and market pricing models and own and develop their pricing optimisation framework
  • Providing inputs into the management and development of their lifetime value modelling and multi-year price optimisation models and strategic approach
  • Monitor market trends and extract insight on competitor benchmarking to make rate recommendations
  • Build a strong relationship with marketing and keep the business informed of their competitive position and conversion performance in their trading meetings
  • Support the Head of Pricing as needed to act as pricing representative in trading meetings to put forth pricing viewpoints on trading performance and upcoming changes
  • You’ll communicate results effectively to realise business gains from valuable insight and present rate recommendations to senior stakeholders, external parties, and pricing committees
  • Support and peer review analysts with line management responsibility for one pricing analyst
  • Ideally, you’ll already be a Pricing Manager or experienced senior analyst with technical pricing skills looking to step up
  • Owing to the nature of the role, they will need you to have a degree-level qualification (or equivalent) in Mathematics, Science, Engineering, or a related degree, with a minimum of a 2:1 classification
  • You have strong commercial experience in a pricing role, preferably direct or aggregator-led personal lines insurance
  • You’ll be an expert in predictive modelling and price optimisation with exposure to the latest emerging techniques in these domains such as machine learning and AI
  • You’re up to date with technical developments in the insurance industry and best practice in actuarial methods
  • You’re a confident user of pricing tools, systems, and languages such as Python, SQL, Earnix, Radar or similar
