Shape the Future. Explore the World. Lead with Purpose.

Are you a passionate Geography specialist ready to take the next step in your career? Do you have the vision to develop an engaging curriculum, inspire a team of teachers, and help students understand the world around them?

We are seeking an ambitious and enthusiastic Curriculum Leader of Geography to drive excellence across the Geography department at an independent school in Reading. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher or aspiring leader to make a meaningful impact on teaching, learning and student achievement.

YOUR MISSION

As Curriculum Leader, you will take ownership of the Geography curriculum, ensuring it challenges students, sparks curiosity and brings the subject to life. You will play a key role in shaping departmental direction, supporting colleagues and creating memorable learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom.

You will be responsible for:
  • Curriculum Development: Design and refine a coherent, ambitious Geography curriculum that inspires students across all key stages.

  • Team Leadership: Motivate, support and develop colleagues, promoting collaboration and sharing excellent teaching practice.

  • Academic Excellence: Monitor student progress, analyse performance and implement strategies that raise achievement.

  • Innovative Teaching: Champion engaging lessons that explore physical and human geography, sustainability, global challenges and current affairs.

  • Fieldwork & Enrichment: Create opportunities for students to experience Geography beyond the classroom through fieldwork, trips and practical investigations.

  • Departmental Improvement: Contribute to whole-school priorities and ensure the subject continues to evolve and thrive.

WHAT WILL YOU BRING?

We are looking for someone who combines strong subject knowledge with the confidence and creativity to lead others.

You will ideally have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Geography or a related discipline.

  • Successful experience teaching Geography across relevant key stages.

  • A genuine passion for the subject and its importance in developing globally aware young people.

  • The ability to plan an effective curriculum and use assessment to improve outcomes.

  • Strong communication, organisation and leadership skills.

  • A commitment to inclusive teaching, high expectations and continuous professional development.

Previous leadership experience would be advantageous, but an outstanding Geography teacher ready to take the next step will also be considered.

WHY TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY?

This role offers the chance to do more than deliver lessons. You will help shape the direction of Geography, influence the learning experience of an entire cohort of students and build a department where both staff and students can flourish.

If you are ready to bring fresh ideas, lead with enthusiasm and inspire the next generation of geographers, we would love to hear from you.
