Beeston Village Surgery is seeking an experienced Lead Practice Nurse to provide clinical leadership and oversee nursing services in a busy GP practice near Leeds. The role includes leading nurse-led clinics, delivering immunisations, cytology, wound care, travel health, and lifestyle support.

You will supervise students, contribute to audits and service improvement, and ensure care aligns with NHS guidelines and local protocols. A current NMC registration and DBS clearance are required.

Qualifications

  • Current NMC registration and CPD.
  • 3+ years post-registration experience in primary or community care.
  • DBS check required and UK professional registration.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver evidence-based nursing care for patients with acute and chronic conditions.
  • Lead nurse-led clinics (Asthma and COPD) and patient reviews.
  • Provide immunisations, cervical cytology, wound care, travel health advice and lifestyle support.
  • Supervise, mentor students and junior staff; participate in audits and service development.
  • Prescribe within competence if qualified; maintain accurate records.

Job description

Beeston Village Surgery is seeking a dynamic and experienced Lead Practice Nurse to take on a key clinical leadership role within our forward-thinking, community-based GP practice. Serving a patient population of just under 8,000, you will play a vital role in delivering and overseeing safe, effective, and evidence-based nursing care. Working collaboratively with both clinical and administrative teams, you will provide strong, visible leadership to the nursing team, ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality, patient-centred services. You will also contribute to service development, clinical governance, and continuous quality improvement across the practiceMain duties of the job Deliver evidence-based nursing care for patients with acute and chronic conditions Lead and manage nurse-led clinics (including Asthma and COPD) Perform patient reviews in line with protocols and best practice Provide:

  • Immunisations and vaccinations
  • Cervical cytology
  • HRT management
  • Wound care
  • Travel health advice
  • Lifestyle support
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with NMC standards
  • Supervise, support, and mentor students
  • Participate in audits, protocol development, and service evaluation, Clinical
  • Lead the delivery of nursing services
  • Provide high-quality care for acute and long-term conditions
  • Triage and prioritise urgent cases, initiating emergency care when required
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records
  • Prescribe within competence (if qualified)
  • Deliver care aligned with national and local guidelines

    • Cervical cytology
    • Immunisations and vaccinations
    • Wound care
    • Venepuncture
    • Blood pressure and spirometry monitoring

    • Contribute to meetings, audits, and quality assurance initiatives

  • At least 2 years recent experience in primary or community care
  • Experience managing chronic conditions in nurse-led settings
  • Strong understanding of general practice nursing
  • Experience implementing clinical protocols
  • Skilled in immunisations, wound care, cytology, and ABPI
  • Experience supervising and developing staff
  • Strong organisational and independent working skills
  • Teaching and mentoring experience
  • Excellent communication skills, Service development or protocol writing
  • Leadership or team management experience
  • Familiarity with clinical systems and digital tools, Diploma or Degree in Adult Nursing
  • Current NMC registration
  • Clinical supervision training
  • Enhanced DBS clearance, Specialist qualifications (e.g., asthma, diabetes, cytology, family planning)
  • Travel medicine qualification
  • Independent/Supplementary Prescriber
  • Community Specialist Practitioner qualification
  • Teaching/Mentorship qualification, Informal meetings prior to interviews welcome.
