Job summary

Gordon Murray Automotive is seeking a Principal Engineer – Powertrain to lead the Powertrain function across programmes, delivering design, development, calibration and global regulatory certification for ultra-low-volume, high-performance systems.

You will drive technical leadership, manage supplier interactions, and guide the team from concept through production while ensuring compliance with applicable EU/UK regulations and niche-market requirements.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in high-performance, low-volume powertrain engineering.
• Minimum 10–12 years in powertrain engineering and 3–5 years in leadership.
• Proven track record with EPA/CARB SVM and EU/UK Small Series schemes.
• Bachelor's or Master's in mechanical/automotive engineering.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Powertrain engineering team across design and development of components and systems.
• Provide technical leadership across engine design, EMS, cooling, lubrication and gearbox systems.
• Drive certification strategy under EPA/CARB, EU Small Series, and UK requirements.
• Ensure BoM structure, mass, design release timing, and DFMEA/DVP inputs are met.
• Oversee EMS and OBD development to meet regulatory standards.
• Direct testing and validation activities from concept to production.
